This article examines the challenges faced by hospitals, medical staffs, medical service professionals, medical staff leaders and in-house counsel when attempting to integrate disparate medical staffs in a multi-hospital system. The article also addresses the pros and cons when maintaining existing structures, bylaws, policies and other operational issues versus moving towards some degree of "systemness" as well as proposing alternative and transitional options.
