2020 1L LCLD Scholars program

Katten is a proud member of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD), an organization comprised of corporate chief legal officers and law firm managing partners whose mission it is to advance diversity in the legal profession. Katten’s Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and Washington, DC offices will begin accepting applications in late 2019 for 2020 1L LCLD Summer Associate positions.

The 1L LCLD Scholars are 1L summer associates that will work on challenging assignments, participate in various summer associate events and receive valuable experience working side by side with practicing attorneys. Additionally, they will have numerous networking and mentoring opportunities organized by the LCLD, as well as the opportunity to attend the LCLD Scholars Summit.

We are seeking students who have excellent academic credentials, strong communication, analytical and writing skills, relevant work and leadership experience, and possess a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusiveness. Eligible applicants must be enrolled full-time in an ABA-accredited law school with an anticipated graduation date of 2021 at the time of application.

Students are encouraged to submit their application as soon as possible, as we have a rolling hiring process and spots will be filled accordingly. If a student’s law school transcript is not available at the time of submission, a follow-up addendum can be sent when the grades are available.

All applications must include:

  • a resume
  • a diversity statement
  • an unofficial law school transcript

Minority 1L environmental internship

Katten's Environmental and Workplace Safety group has an internship and mentoring opportunity for an outstanding 1L seeking to expand his/her knowledge in the environmental legal space. Based in the Washington, DC office, the 1L intern will work directly with practice leaders, including Environmental and Workplace Safety head Steven Solow. Throughout the summer internship, this individual will collaborate with Katten's industry-recognized team and work on projects relating to the key environmental and workplace safety issues and regulations that major companies, national and regional trade associations, and corporate managers regularly face. The 1L intern will gain insight into federal and state laws and learn about industry trends, rules and regulations.

Katten strives to develop mentorship opportunities for minority law students. Through this internship opportunity, the Environmental and Workplace Safety practice hopes to introduce minority law students to an exciting and growing area of practice. After completing this hands-on internship and mentoring program, it is our goal that the rising 2L will be well positioned to pursue a summer associate program in any area of practice, but particularly environmental law. Katten is seeking a student who has strong organizational and writing skills, a keen attention to detail, the ability to follow through to meet deadlines, and possesses a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.

Applications for summer 2020 will open in late 2019.

All applications must include:

  • a resume
  • a cover letter
  • an unofficial law school transcript

Applications should be submitted via email to was.recruiting@katten.com. Please reference "Minority 1L Environmental Internship Program Application" in the email subject line.

London Training Contract and Internship Programme

London Training Contract
Applications for 2021 and 2022 training contracts are open to all graduates, penultimate-year law students and final-year non-law students from 14 October 2019 until 28 February 2020. Before joining the firm as a trainee, students are strongly encouraged to apply for a place on our Summer Vacation Scheme.

We have a wide variety of practice groups providing a full service to clients, and we do not align trainees to strict departmental “seats”, which ensures that you get as broad an experience as possible. Our trainees are just as important as our other fee earners, and as such, you will be as key to our client service and office development over the coming years as our partners, associates and staff. Our training contract is very flexible, designed with your interests in mind, as well as our desire to create a rounded, commercial, qualified Katten lawyer with strong legal knowledge.

After the closing date, applications will be assessed and a shortlist of candidates will be interviewed over July and potentially into August.

To apply, please send your CV and covering letter for the attention of HR to LON.recruiting@katten.co.uk.

London Summer Internship Programme

We offer up to five one-week internships through June and July. The programme provides practical experience, with interns undertaking a variety of work from different practice areas and having the opportunity to see first-hand how our solicitors and partners work.

Applications for our Summer Vacation Scheme 2020 are open from 14 October 2019 until 28 February 2020. After the closing date, applications will be assessed and a shortlist of candidates will be interviewed in March/April 2020.

To apply, please send your CV and covering letter for the attention of HR to LON.recruiting@katten.co.uk.
