Law360 interviewed Katten real estate partners Timothy Patenode and Daniel Huffenus for a pair of articles about the trends that will be driving the real estate market and real estate litigation in 2013.
In “Real Estate Cases to Watch in 2013,” Mr. Patenode, head of Katten’s Chicago Real Estate Litigation Practice, said he expects to see an uptick in construction suits in 2013 as the market continues to rebound. “I think we’re headed into a development cycle . . . [where] you’ll see zoning and construction disputes.”
In “US Real Estate Market Set to Boom in 2013,” Mr. Huffenus, managing partner of the firm’s Charlotte office and head of the Charlotte Real Estate Practice, commented on the recovery of the commercial mortgage-backed securities industry and how this is likely to spur lending activity in the year ahead. “The demand for new debt is pretty staggering,” he says. “As long as yields stay low, CMBS is going to be a viable product. We’re gearing up for a busy 2013 and beyond.”
