Katten announced the close of a real estate deal in which its longtime client, Macerich, signed a 15-year lease with Intelsat, the world's leading provider of satellite services. As part of the deal, in mid-2014 Intelsat will occupy 37% of a planned 22-story tower next to Tysons Corner Center shopping mall in McLean (Fairfax), Virginia. The expansion will be part of a larger development including a new Hyatt Regency hotel, residential building and a Metro station. Intelsat, which is currently based in Washington, D.C., was drawn to Virginia by a personal plea from the Commonwealth as well as a $1.3 million grant, tax credits and job training assistance. Katten attorneys Wendy Fields and Rori Malech drafted and negotiated the lease agreement on behalf of Macerich. See attached press release.
