CHICAGO – Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP is pleased to announce that Herbert S. Wander, a partner in the firm’s Corporate Practice, has been named the 2011 Chicago Corporate Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers in America. After more than a quarter-century in publication, Best Lawyers is, for the first time, designating “Lawyers of the Year” in high-profile legal specialties in large legal communities. Only a single lawyer in each specialty in each community is being honored as “Lawyer of the Year.” Mr. Wander has been recognized by Best Lawyers every year since its first edition in 1983.

Mr. Wander concentrates his practice on all aspects of business law, especially corporate governance, securities law, and mergers and acquisitions. He has been the chief legal architect for many major M&A transactions, both negotiated and hostile. Mr. Wander served as co-chair of the SEC Advisory Committee on Smaller Public Companies, which was formed to assess the regulatory system for smaller companies under the securities laws, including the impact of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. The SEC has implemented many of the recommendations laid forth in the Advisory Committee’s Final Report, and Congress adopted one of its major recommendations in the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. Mr. Wander is also a past chair of the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association.

Best Lawyers compiles its lists of outstanding attorneys by conducting exhaustive peer-review surveys in which thousands of leading lawyers confidentially evaluate their professional peers. The current, 17th edition of Best Lawyers in America (2011) is based on more than 3.1 million detailed evaluations of lawyers by other lawyers. The lawyers being honored as “Lawyers of the Year” have received particularly high ratings in Best Lawyers’ surveys by earning a high level of respect among their peers for their abilities, professionalism and integrity.
