The Chicago Daily Law Bulletin quoted Vincent Sergi, Katten's National Managing Partner, in an article about the issues which minority women face in law firms, following his participation in a panel discussion titled: "Visible Invisibility: Women of Color in Law Firms." In the article, Mr. Sergi said that, "firms can use their compensation system as a tool to reward partners who are committed to diversity efforts."  He also noted that in an environment where law firms are committed to profitability, improving retention of minority lawyers is essential ("Panel Examines Obstacles Facing Minority Women at Firms," June 20, 2007).
