Sheldon Banoff, a partner in the firm’s Tax Planning Practice, took over principal authorship of the Journal of Taxation’s monthly “Shop Talk” column in July 1984. In his 25th anniversary article, he reflects on the evolution of the column and the tax issues it has addressed. Mr. Banoff writes, “Our columns have identified administrative and judicial developments of interest in the tax law. We have identified potential abuses of IRS power, misguided legislation that could lead to absurd results, and trends in the business world—Wall Street or Main Street—that often were motivated by (or sometimes had potentially unanticipated) tax consequences. We have attempted to provide updates on aspects of the tax law that might escape the eye of many practitioners dealing with rules and Regulations under an ever-more-complex Internal Revenue Code.” (“25 Years of Shop Talk Columns, With More to Come,” June 2009)
