About Robert Weiss
In Memoriam
The Katten community grieves the unexpected loss of our dear friend and colleague Robert Weiss, who passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2022. Known for his kindness and generosity of spirit, Bob was a respected legal advisor across the financial services sector.
Bob spent the bulk of his legal career at Katten, joining the firm in 1998, where his blend of corporate transactional experience with hedge fund expertise worked to his clients' advantage. He advised investment managers, financial institutions, investment funds, family offices and other clients on hedge fund-related matters and on financings, joint ventures, securities and acquisition transactions.
Bob, who had a gift for clearly distilling and communicating complex topics, lectured extensively on a variety of legal topics including private fund lending, swaps and derivatives, and limited liability companies. He was a longtime editor of Katten publications, including Corporate & Financial Weekly Digest and Financial Markets and Funds Quick Take, which he helped launch in 2022.
After graduating summa cum laude from Brooklyn College, Bob earned his law degree from Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. He will be remembered fondly as a man of faith, for his lively sense of humor, and as a devoted husband and father.
