About Mike Shaffer

Mike Shaffer has extensive experience working with commercial real estate lenders and loan sellers in structured finance transactions including commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS), commercial real estate collateral loan obligation (CRE CLO) and repurchase facility transactions. He has represented issuers and underwriters in both public and private (144A) offerings of CMBS. He has also worked with issuers, trustees, master servicers and securities administrators regarding securitization transactions including CMBS, CRE CLO, single-family rental, residential mortgage-backed securities and auto securitizations.

Deep experience with structured financial transactions with respect to commercial mortgages

Mike has represented a wide variety of clients including large banks and real estate-focused funds. This gives him insight that is helpful in finding common ground with negotiating counterparties.

Prior to joining Katten, Mike worked for three other major national firms where he gained a broad perspective of the field as well as considerable experience in structured financial transactions, particularly with respect to commercial mortgages.
