Steven Solow, co-head of Katten's Environmental and Workplace Safety practice, was interviewed by Scott Fulton, Environmental Law Institute (ELI) president, on the American Bar Association Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources' SEER Podcast regarding the upcoming Environmental and Workplace Safety Criminal Enforcement Conference on October 26. Noteworthy speakers, including top government representatives, will lead discussions on relevant topics such as expansion of criminal enforcement under the worker safety initiative and the Yates Memos, defensive strategies in the face of DOL and DOJ cooperation, and management of legal risks and communication during a crisis. Steve noted that understanding enforcement issues is critical, stating, "The government seems to be proceeding on a theory that if a company violated workplace safety law, they've also probably violated an environmental law as well. That's appealing to prosecutors because the penalties for environmental crimes and other traditional criminal charges are far more severe."
