SERVICE AWARDS
For the 25th year, Katten has recognized 14 attorneys and six business professionals,
marking the inaugural year that business professionals have been honored with these
service awards, who exemplify excellence in pro bono service. These awards highlight
their continued dedication to serving those who otherwise would not have access to
high-quality legal representation and support. We asked each winner to share what they
value about their pro bono practice:
SODEN ABRAHAM
Corporate, Associate, “ I have been working on pro bono matters since I was a junior associate at my
Dallas prior firms. I enjoy the work because I view it as an opportunity to use my
training and skills to give back to the community and the less fortunate.”
BOB BAKER
Real Estate, Associate, “ I was (and am) drawn to pro bono work to use my legal skills to help people
Washington, DC who don’t have the means to pay for a lawyer. I specifically enjoy immigration
work because it has a massive impact on an individual’s life — the ability to
live in the US is life-changing for our clients who can get legal status.”
LEIGH BRISSENDEN
Financial Markets “ Being in the private sector, I felt that it was very important to integrate service
Litigation and and pro bono work into my practice. Immigration is one of those areas where a
Enforcement, Associate, little bit of legal knowledge can go a long way and there are so many people in
Chicago
need of assistance who would not otherwise have access to legal advice but for
pro bono counsel.”
SARA BROWN
Commercial Litigation, “ My pro bono work at Katten has been mostly in a support role for the
Paralegal, Charlotte attorneys who volunteer for pro bono opportunities. I am most passionate
about efforts supporting the rights of children, who often don’t have a direct
voice in our legal system.”
