KATTEN RISES SIGNIFICANTLY IN 2025
AM LAW 200 PRO BONO RANKINGS
In the most recent Am Law 200 Pro Bono Rankings survey,
which evaluates law firms based on the average number of
pro bono hours worked per attorney and the percentage of
attorneys contributing 20 or more hours of service annually,
Katten advanced 10 positions. This marks the firm’s third
consecutive year of upward movement in the rankings. This
year, Katten set new records with an average of 50.3 pro
bono hours per attorney and a 45.8 percent participation
rate, reflecting our ongoing commitment to pro bono service.
While the rankings do not account for the contributions of
business professionals who support the firm’s pro bono
efforts, Katten recognizes and appreciates their essential
role in achieving these results.
LEGAL AID CHICAGO NAMES MATTHEW HARTZLER AS ‘VOLUNTEER
OF THE YEAR’ FOR WORK AT KATTEN DE DIEGO LEGAL CLINIC
Chicago Intellectual Property Associate Matthew Hartzler was honored as a “Volunteer of the Year” by
Legal Aid Chicago for his work with Katten’s Legal Clinic at Chicago Public Schools’ Jose de Diego Community
Academy. Matt has volunteered at the Katten de Diego clinic nearly every month since he joined the firm in
early 2021, working with pro bono clients on nearly every aspect of civil law ranging from housing and eviction
to debt and family law. Matt said that staffing Katten’s clinic taught him the power of listening. “Many coming
to our clinic have never been able to tell their story to a legal professional before,” he said. “I am proud that
the voices entering our door will be heard.”
“ Matt is able to connect with clients in a way that allows him to gather the relevant
and necessary information, all while making his clients feel heard and supported,”
