About Ashley T. Brines
Ashley Brines is skilled in complex commercial and class action litigation, with particular experience in consumer protection, financial services litigation, privacy and real estate disputes. She has experience defending clients through all stages of litigation, from pre-litigation risk assessment and counseling, to advocating before trial courts in state and federal jurisdictions across the country and defending clients in jury trials and arbitration proceedings. She also has extensive appellate practice experience in the California Courts of Appeal, Colorado and Washington Court of Appeals, and before several Circuits of the United States Court of Appeals.
Trusted litigator inside and outside of the courtroom
Ashley has extensive experience litigating claims involving breach of contract, consumer protection, negligence, fraud, and other federal and state statutes, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), California’s Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA), Consumer Legal Remedies Act (CLRA) and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).
Ashley recently served as third chair in a jury trial in San Mateo County in which Katten secured a defense verdict on behalf of our client, a data services provider, on claims of breach of contract and fraud. She also achieved summary judgment in the Northern District of California on behalf of her client in a putative class action FCRA and privacy case, which was affirmed by the Ninth Circuit on appeal.
Ashley maintains an active pro bono practice, including securing asylum in the United States for a client and his family, finalizing adoptions for various families, and drafting an amicus brief that was filed in the Washington Supreme Court on behalf of a nonprofit organization advocating for women's rights.
While in law school, Ashley served as a judicial extern for the Honorable John A. Kronstadt at the United States District Court for the Central District of California. Ashley also participated in the UCLA Cappello Civil Trial Advocacy and Pretrial Civil Litigation clinics.
