About Corey Samantha Peterson
Corey Peterson is a driven litigator who excels in complex commercial disputes. A bold strategist and creative problem-solver, she refuses to accept conventional wisdom, instead crafting innovative solutions to transform her clients' most daunting legal challenges into victories. Known for remaining calm and composed under pressure, Corey delivers confident courtroom performances in high-stakes settings where the outcome truly matters.
Focused, fearless advocacy in complex real estate and commercial litigation
Representing major real estate owners and developers, Corey guides them through construction and land disputes from inception through final judgment. A fierce advocate in the courtroom, she also works proactively with clients to resolve disputes before they escalate into costly litigation. Her results speak for themselves. She has secured judgments exceeding $160 million and successfully defended clients against claims for declaratory and injunctive relief, as well as for monetary damages exceeding tens of millions of dollars.
Corey knows her clients' cases as intimately as they do because she understands that thorough mastery of the facts is what separates good lawyers from great ones. Her formative years clerking in both the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland, gave her valuable, behind-the-scenes insight into how trial courts operate, knowledge she now applies to develop well‑grounded strategies for her clients that position them for success.
Corey's commitment to justice extends far beyond her paying clients. Her robust pro bono practice includes serving as counsel for indigent defendants in local state courts, representing local nonprofits in contract and land use disputes, and drafting amicus briefs submitted to the US Supreme Court on behalf of a prominent nonprofit advocacy organization.
Corey leads as passionately outside the courtroom as she advocates within it. As president of the District of Columbia chapter of the Coalition of Women's Initiatives in Law, she champions the advancement of women in the legal profession. And when she's not winning cases, she's making a difference, routinely fostering rescue dogs and helping them find their forever homes through a local animal rescue nonprofit.
Before joining Katten, Corey served as a law clerk to judges in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland. During law school, Corey was the president of the Mock Trial Honor Society and received the Mooers Trophy for excellence in advocacy.
