A Katten team led by Sports and Sports Facilities Partner Daniel Render represented the Larry H. Miller Company (LHM) in acquiring a controlling interest in the operating rights to the Major League Soccer (MLS) club Real Salt Lake and the National Women's Soccer League's Utah Royals.

The transaction includes the acquisition by LHM of a majority interest in the MLS Next Pro team Real Monarchs, the RSL Academy, and the operating rights to the America First Field, Zions Bank Stadium and the Zions Bank Training Center.

LHM previously owned a controlling interest in the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association. Katten represented LHM in 2020 when it sold its controlling interest in the franchise.

The Katten team included Sports and Sports Facilities Partner Adam Klein and Associate Ethan Asofsky; Corporate Associates Julie Park, Kylie Sholty and Austin Brandenburg; Transactional Tax Planning Partner Valentina Famparska; Private Credit Partner Andy Lillis, Counsel Sophia Lewis, Associates Lauren Batterham, Tim Brown and Nune Mamyan and Paralegal Sharon Elkin; and Real Estate Partner Jason Gorczynski and Associate Phil Piecuch.
