A Katten team led by Sports and Sports Facilities Partner Daniel Render represented an investment group headed by Doug Ostrover and Marc Lipschultz, co-CEOs of asset manager Blue Owl Capital, Inc., in the acquisition of a significant stake in the National Hockey League's Tampa Bay Lightning.
The terms of the deal dictate that current Lightning Chairman and Governor Jeff Vinik will retain full control of the team and continue to act as its Governor for the next three years. After three years, control will transfer over to Ostrover and Lipschultz. Vinik will remain an ownership partner and will serve as an Alternate Governor of the team.
The Katten team included Sports and Sports Facilities Partner Adam Klein, Corporate Partner Josh Feiger and Associates Aaron Feld, Quentin Wolff and Julie Park; Real Estate Partner Jason Gorczynski; Securities Litigation Partner Jonathan Rotenberg; Transactional Tax Planning Partner Valentina Famparska; Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Counsel Lisa Christensen and Associate Peter Dalmasy; Commercial Litigation Partner Nancy Rich; and Intellectual Property Partner Sean Wooden.
