Restructuring Partner Genevieve Weiner’s arrival at Katten has garnered media attention from the Global Restructuring Review (GRR) and multiple other outlets, such as ABF Journal, The Deal and more. Genevieve joined the firm's Los Angeles office from Sidley Austin and represents secured and unsecured creditors, lenders and debtors in both court-supervised and out-of-court workouts. She also handles distressed mergers and acquisitions (M&A), receiverships, distressed investments, loan enforcement, bankruptcy litigation and debtor-in-possession (DIP) financings. Recent experience highlights include advising prepetition term loan and DIP lenders in the Chapter 11 case of the Hooters restaurant chain, which restructured $380 million in funded debt and completed a sale of stores to a buyer group of two existing franchisees.

"While I have always enjoyed being able to represent stakeholders on all sides of the table, my practice has grown with respect to lender-side engagements," Genevieve said, adding that she sees Katten, trusted counsel to some of the most active private credit lenders and commercial banks in the United States, "as the ideal place to serve clients across market cycles and continue building my practice on the West Coast and beyond." At Katten, Genevieve expects to keep expanding her practice by deepening relationships with private credit funds, hedge funds, distressed investors, banks and other institutional creditors active in stressed and distressed situations. "As credit markets tighten and defaults increase, I anticipate a steady pipeline of sophisticated engagements across industries such as technology, healthcare and real estate," she said.

"Genevieve’s sophisticated restructuring experience and forward-looking approach make her a tremendous asset to our clients and to our practice," said Partner and Global Restructuring Chair Steven J. Reisman. "She has represented, at different times of her practice, each constituency in the restructuring process across market cycles, and she consistently sees around corners for her clients."

Genevieve's addition continues Katten's buildout of its Restructuring practice, which earlier this year brought on London Partner James Davison and Counsel Victoria Procter.
