Modern Luxury Miami profiled Katten’s Josh Kaufman, Lead Partner of the Public Company Advisory Practice and Managing Partner of the firm’s newly opened Miami office, in the city’s November Innovative Leaders issue.

Josh's career traces back to a three-generation family tradition in law and medicine. Corporate law appealed to him for its distinctive blend of critical thinking, commercial strategy and the opportunity to help clients build businesses, raise capital and pursue transformational opportunities. Josh is now establishing Katten's presence in a city that draws family offices, investment funds and multinational companies. His 2026 priority is to build a Miami hub for capital markets and public company advisory, investment funds, private wealth, private equity, and private credit, serving South Florida clients through Katten's global platform. “Miami has become our Monaco, with a socioeconomic climate attracting leading businesses, investors and funds,” he said.

Josh also discussed how technology is changing legal work and the industries he advises. He notes that artificial intelligence can help with drafting and analysis, but he believes sophisticated counsel still depends on human commercial judgment. “The most valuable legal guidance is practical, business-minded and fully aligned with a client's broader objectives,” he said. Building the office has called for the same mix of local knowledge and broader reach. That work includes recruiting attorneys, shaping office culture, deepening ties with the business community and connecting Florida colleagues with teams across the firm.

Looking ahead, Josh wants Katten's Miami presence to grow alongside the innovative companies, investors and financial institutions driving the city's rise as a financial hub. He sees the effort as a long-term investment in Miami and the broader Florida business community.
