In a "40 Under 40" Q&A with the Dallas Business Journal, Private Wealth partner Kevin Keen discussed current leadership hurdles, future market challenges and opportunities and noted the song that makes him feel good every time he hears it.
The Q&A follows Kevin's inclusion in the Dallas Business Journal's 2023 class of "40 Under 40," which honors rising stars and business people to know in North Texas. Kevin and his fellow award recipients were honored during an awards ceremony on July 20.
On the leadership challenges he faces, Kevin said he consistently faces the tension between moving quickly and deliberating carefully to deliver the best strategy for a client. "In today's world of fast-changing laws and regulations, it is essential to be agile and responsive to stay ahead of the competition," Kevin said. "But our clients trust us. And for them, it is equally important to ensure that the decisions we recommend to them are well-thought-out."
Trust was also a theme when Kevin was asked about a lesson learned. For Kevin, in addition to being trusted by clients, he puts a premium on building trusting relationships with colleagues through collaboration, support and mentorship.
Finally, Kevin discussed the opportunities he sees this year and next, notably the importance of engaging clients in strategic planning for the long term beyond any current market uncertainties.
"The legal and tax landscape is constantly changing, and we expect to see new regulations and compliance requirements in the coming years," he said. "By staying ahead of these changes, we can better serve our clients and help them navigate the complex and changing legal landscape."
Kevin, who launched Katten's Private Wealth practice in Dallas, serves high-net-worth individuals and their private enterprises. Licensed in Texas and Florida, he maintains a global practice, serving private clients nationally and abroad on issues involving tax optimization, estate and wealth transfer planning, pre-immigration and expatriation planning, and the structuring of foreign investments into the United States.
