Partner and Securities Enforcement Defense Co-Chair Danette Edwards was a guest on the Gula Tech Adventures podcast. She talked about her career trajectory, including her recent decade-plus tenure at the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) Enforcement Division. Danette discussed new SEC regulations regarding cybersecurity requirements for public companies and regulated entities and provided insights into the implications of these rules for Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs). She also touched upon key SEC cases in the cyber arena, including the bellwether SolarWinds litigation and a settled case involving ICE and the New York Stock Exchange.

Danette weighed in on important subjects for CISOs, such as personal liability insurance, having a rider added to the company's directors and officers (D&O) liability insurance policy, and indemnification, especially in light of the increasing legal exposure CISOs now face. She also considered the value to CISOs in continually educating other senior colleagues within their organizations about cyber risks and securing consensus at the highest ranks about technology safeguards and the budget for enhanced cybersecurity tools. Danette further explored best practices relating to thorough documentation and appropriate transparency when experiencing a cyber event.
