The National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) is celebrating Financial Markets and Funds Associate Robert Bourret as a 2026 Rising Star, which recognizes attorneys who have demonstrated "an extraordinary commitment to ensuring access to justice for immigrants by devoting substantial time to NIJC pro bono work.” Robert is among 16 attorneys honored out of over 2,000 volunteers that NIJC works with each year.

Robert has worked with NIJC to represent asylum-seeking individuals, including a couple from Venezuela, both of whom had been members of a main political party opposed to the Maduro regime and were persecuted for protesting, as well as a political dissident from Togo who had endured years of persecution, imprisonment and threats to his life before escaping to the United States. In collaboration with other Katten attorneys and Director of Pro Bono Services Jonathan Baum, Robert resolved each of these cases in approximately one year.

“I am extremely grateful to NIJC for all of their support and the opportunity to represent asylum seekers,” Robert said about his pro bono work. “Seeing the joy on my clients’ faces when they have been granted the chance to build a life in the United States makes all the hard work worth it, and I look forward to continuing this critical work with NIJC.”
