Katten was among only eight Chicago-area companies named to Working Mother magazine’s 2010 “100 Best Companies for Working Mothers.” The firm was highlighted in a Chicago Sun-Times article about local employers who made the magazine’s 25th annual list. The article notes, “At Chicago-based law firm Katten Muchin Rosenman, women have used paid sabbaticals to travel to Europe, create works of art and enjoy more time with their kids.” (“Eight local employers named best for working moms,” September 14, 2010)
As noted in another article in Law360, Katten was also one of only four law firms to make the list. Rori Malech, a partner in the firm’s Real Estate practice who has given birth to two children since joining the firm, says the benefits lauded by Working Mother are vital to keeping women in the legal profession. “The way to retain and maintain women across professional sectors is not handouts,” said Ms. Malech, who is also a member of the firm’s Women’s Leadership Forum. “It's flexibility and openness.” (“4 Firms Rate Among 100 Best Employers For Mothers,” September 15, 2010)
