Ronni Davidowitz, a partner in the firm's Trusts and Estates Practice, was quoted in Tax Notes Today on the IRS's decision to delay the filing deadline for Form 8939, "Allocation of Increase in Basis for Property Acquired from a Decedent." The delay may cause further uncertainty for estate planners working on tax filings. Ms. Davidowitz says that certain decisions have to be made when administering an estate and that practitioners are doing the best they can without guidance. However, she explains that by delaying the filing date for Form 8939, the IRS recognizes that the issue affects both the government and the practitioner community. "We're all grappling with this under a short deadline," she says, adding that practitioners would welcome new guidance sooner rather than later, but would rather have the IRS get it right.
