New York Managing Partner Wendy Cohen, Financial Markets and Funds, Chicago Managing Partner Jennifer Wolfe, Private Credit, and Private Credit Partner Shana Ramirez, all of whom were honored on the 2024 Women of Influence lists by Business Journals, were each profiled by their respective city's publication. In their profiles, each partner shared insights into their career journeys, the role of mentoring in their professional growth and development, the impact of a post-COVID work environment and their future aspirations.
In New York Business Journal, Wendy reflected on her journey as a Big Law attorney for 38 years, representing investment managers as well as hedge and private equity funds "since before people knew what a hedge or PE fund was," and ultimately leading to her current role as Katten's New York office managing partner. She shared that "one of [her] favorite duties is showcasing our beautiful new space at 50 Rockefeller Plaza as a physical embodiment of the quality legal services we provide to clients nationally and globally." Throughout her career, Wendy has prioritized formal mentoring with a "teaching by doing" approach, a mindset passed on from one of her own mentors, by exhibiting leadership qualities that she hopes young attorneys will be "inclined to model" as they, especially women, position themselves for leadership roles. Looking ahead, Wendy anticipates "continued engagement and growth" such that the firm maintains the "high-caliber client work that distinguishes" our Financial Markets and Funds practice.
With Chicago Business Journal, Jennifer discussed her dedication to mentoring young attorneys and fostering their growth within the firm. She emphasized the importance of guiding the next generation of attorneys, especially in navigating the complexities of the legal profession. Jennifer also commented on how the post-pandemic environment has impacted Katten, noting the firm's adaptability and resilience in maintaining high standards of client service and collaboration despite increasing trends of hybrid work models, and that "striking a balance is important for both training and relationship-building." Jennifer said she plans to further her impact by continuing to drive initiatives that enhance the firm's innovative, inclusive culture.
In her profile with L.A. Business First, Shana emphasized the importance of "poise" and effective communication, attributes that help to manage stress, instill client confidence and boost credibility, especially during high-pressure situations, in one's legal career. She discussed her mentorship of associates in our Los Angeles office, drawing from her own mentors who had supported her throughout her career. Shana went on to describe Katten's commitment to talent retention, deploying more mentorship and professional development programs that provide a clear path to advancement for both attorneys and business professionals by making them feel more engaged and valued.
All three partners were among 10 women in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, respectively, who were selected from hundreds of submissions for the 2024 Women of Influence awards, which recognize outstanding female professionals across various industries for their contributions and leadership.
