About Catherine E. O'Brien

Katie O’Brien assists clients with intellectual property and data protection matters across a variety of industries.

A wide range of intellectual property experience

Katie focuses her practice on intellectual property and related commercial litigation, which includes trademark infringement, false advertising, unfair competition and defamation. Katie also counsels clients on privacy and data security laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the New York Stop Hacks and Improve Electronic Data Security (SHIELD) Act, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and state safeguard and data breach notification laws. Katie also assists clients with drafting privacy, data and information security notices, policies and procedures.

Prior to joining Katten, Katie served as a Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) Fellow at Lawyers for the Creative Arts, where she assisted artists in the Chicago area with a wide variety of legal issues. Katie now serves on the associate board for the Lawyers for the Creative Arts.
