London managing partner Christopher Hitchins spoke with The Carer regarding the recent announcement by Health Secretary Sajid Javid that all frontline UK National Health Service (NHS) staff be fully vaccinated by April 2022. Noting the change in tactic, he stated, “It’s a sign that while the UK Government is reluctant to mandate vaccination in all workplaces but would rather encourage vaccine and booster uptake, in line with the cultural tone that they’ve set that it is seen as a freedom of choice up to a point, it is also a recognition from the Government that people who have been vaccinated would appear to reduce the risk of the spread of the virus in particular in areas where there are a collection of vulnerable people, such as a care home or hospital.” (“Vaccines to be Mandatory for Frontline NHS Staff in England,” November 9, 2021)
