London Deputy Managing Partner Terry Green was quoted by the Financial Times and the Solicitors Journal about the Office of Communications' (Ofcom) investigations into four companies, including a non-UK entity, proving its robust enforcement of the Online Safety Act (OSA) soon after implementation.
Terry commented on what these investigations imply, telling the Solicitors Journal that "the fact that Ofcom already has a number of existing enforcement programmes and investigations into the compliance of the [OSA] shows they are serious about the OSA's implementation." He added that the enforcement actions send "a clear message that companies all around the world should take this seriously, or else they will face an Ofcom investigation."
Terry was further quoted in the Financial Times, stating that the "OSA's reach goes beyond just the [United Kingdom] and Ofcom are willing to go after these [overseas] companies." He also noted that Ofcom seems to be focusing on larger players, "regardless of their size," and emphasized the importance of collaboration between online platforms and Ofcom. "Engagement with Ofcom shows that a platform is taking the OSA seriously and fosters a cooperative culture," he said.
