For the second consecutive year, Crain's Chicago Business has recognized partners Kimberly Smith and Lance Zinman to its "Notable Gen X Leaders in Accounting, Consulting and Law" list. The list features Gen X attorneys who have shown the ability or power to effect change and have assumed a leadership position outside their organization.

Crain's noted that as global chair of the Corporate department, Kimberly leads more than 140 attorneys across offices in the United States, United Kingdom and China. She also maintains a busy transactional practice, routinely advising clients on leveraged buyouts, acquisitions, joint ventures and other investments. She is a member of the firm's board of directors, a role that enables her to help shape strategic planning for the firm, including on profitability, flexible work policies and diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. Kimberly also sits on the mentoring panel of the firm's Women's Leadership Forum. She is a member of the corporate board of directors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago, where she is a founding member of the organization's guild board, which helps with fundraising.

Crain's highlighted that Lance, global chair of the firm's Financial Markets and Funds practice, is a member of Katten's Executive Committee and leads an international team of more than 80 attorneys. He helps clients navigate market turbulence, buy digital assets and follow global regulations. He counsels top prop shops and quant firms and advises proprietary trading firms and asset managers on cryptocurrency trading ventures. Lance is a board member of Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, providing strategic guidance on curriculum, faculty and admissions, and Help For Children, an international organization of hedge fund and investment leaders who have raised more than $53 million to help prevent child abuse.
