Several Katten attorneys will participate in the FIA Law & Compliance Division Conference, of which the firm will also serve as a gold sponsor, taking place on April 23–25. The Law & Compliance Division Conference examines the legal, regulatory and enforcement developments and offers practical compliance tips and strategies for the industry.
On Thursday, April 24, Katten attorneys are involved in two breakout sessions:
- Daniel Davis, Partner and Co-Chair, Financial Markets and Regulation, will serve as moderator of the "Administrative Law: Are We in a New Age of Agency Rulemaking?" session at 11:15 a.m. ET. The panel will focus on the potential impact on the financial services industry by cases that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and other federal agencies have suffered in high-profile courtroom defeats in recent years on regulatory and enforcement matters, such as the Supreme Court's decision in Loper Bright. Dan is on the FIA Law and Compliance Division's Executive Committee.
- Associate Alexander Kim will serve on the "Crypto Primer" Fundamentals Track panel at 11:15 a.m. ET. This panel will explore major cryptocurrencies and how they are traded and regulated, now and potentially in the future.
On Friday, April 25, Katten attorneys are involved in two breakout sessions:
- Partner Stephen Morris will serve as the moderator of the "Regulatory Round-Up" session at 9:45 a.m. ET. This panel will discuss the biggest regulatory developments of the past year in derivatives and how firms can successfully navigate the changes.
- Carl Kennedy, Partner and Co-Chair, Financial Markets and Regulation, will serve as a panelist during the Lunch & Learn session, "Clearing the Way to the Future: How Is Technology Changing Market Paradigms?" at 12:00 p.m. ET. This panel will discuss possible answers to questions such as:
- How will market participants trade and clear derivatives and securities in the future?
- Will new technologies such as tokenized assets fundamentally reshape how markets are accessed and used ... and by whom?
