Katten was recognized as an ABA Free Legal Answers 2020 Pro Bono Leader by the American Bar Association's (ABA) Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service for the firm's dedication to pro bono service through its participation in ABA Free Legal Answers, a virtual legal advice clinic.
The ABA Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service presents the recognition annually to individual attorneys, law firms, corporate law departments, and other organizations that have provided extraordinary pro bono services through ABA Free Legal Answers. Katten received a certificate recognizing the firm for answering 119 civil legal questions through the clinic.
"Through your firm's exceptional pro bono service, you are helping to ensure that tens of thousands of low-income individuals across this country are receiving the legal help they deserve," wrote David Bienvenu, chair of the ABA Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service, in a letter to Jonathan Baum, Katten's director of pro bono services.
Katten has an extensive pro bono program and pro bono work and public service has been among the core values of the firm since its founding. Recently, Katten appointed Government and Public Finance senior counsel Janet Goelz Hoffman as pro bono counsel, a position through which she will work in collaboration with Jonathan Baum to coordinate Katten's transactional pro bono work.
