Katten's Aviation team, featuring Washington DC managing partner and Aviation chair Timothy Lynes and associate Brett Seifarth, was awarded a Go-To Thought Leadership Award by the National Law Review (NLR). The NLR recognizes 71 exceptional authors and legal organizations annually for "demonstrating impressive legal knowledge and business acumen, but [also] writing with an eye towards compliance or adaptation; and along with attracting high numbers of readers, they are also frequently referenced in other media and academic journals." The NRL indicated that the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic fallout significantly shaped both the topics written about and the communication methods, as in-person events were not possible.

The Aviation attorneys were recognized for their COVID-related thought leadership discussing its "impact on the aviation industry, specifically the government's on-going operation support for the airlines and aviation finance and leases." The NRL made particular note that "Katten's thought leadership in aviation addresses leases and financing and the insurance of aircraft assets during bankruptcies, as well as government regulation and oversight of the aviation industry including the Treasury Department's payroll support for airline workers and special payments earmarked for the airline industry under the CARES Act."
