Katten's Los Angeles managing partner Zia F. Modabber moderated a panel on Oct. 26, 2019 featuring longtime client Nine Inch Nails frontman and Oscar winner Trent Reznor at the 2019 Institute on Entertainment Law and Business presented by the USC Gould School of Law and the Beverly Hills Bar Association.
The session, called "The Musical Artist and the Representation Team," featured Reznor -- Nine Inch Nails creator and frontman, and Oscar winner -- himself, and members of his core team: Zia F. Modabber, managing partner of Katten's Los Angeles offices; Marc P. Geiger, Global Head of Music at WME; Jeannette Perez, President, Global Synch and Brand Partnerships at Kobalt Music; and John Silva of Silva Artist Management.
The panel explored the continuing evolution of their roles within a changing music business, and the typical demands and expectations of musical artists on team members. Reznor discussed his own career, with the panel weighing in on how they continually strive try to maximize the right opportunities in touring, motion picture and television scoring, music licensing for advertising purposes, and Reznor's many other activities.
Katten partner Michael S. Hobel, head of the firm's Entertainment and Media practice, served on the planning committee for the event, which was also sponsored by Katten.
