In a Q&A for the New York State Bar Association's publication WILS Connect, Health Care Associate Erica Youngerman interviewed Dr. Allison DePersia about the importance of breast cancer screenings. Dr. DePersia shared an overview of the types of screenings, screening risks, and the signs and symptoms that should prompt a doctor visit.
The Q&A also covered levels of cancer risk and genetic testing, with Dr. DePersia noting that "Individuals with an inherited risk of breast cancer may also have other elevated cancer risks depending on the inherited pathogenic variant identified in the family and family history… Therefore, a comprehensive screening plan is recommended, and genetic testing is also relevant for males."
