Carl Kennedy, a partner in the firm's Financial Services practice, was profiled in American Lawyer on his joining Katten. When asked about his decision to change firms, Carl stated, "What I believe Katten offers is that it's an amazing firm and so well-regarded in the [derivatives] industry…," adding that he looked forward to working with top lawyers in the industry, such as special counsel Gary DeWaal, partner Kevin Foley, global co-chair Arthur Hahn and of counsel Guy Dempsey. "I feel like I can learn from them and be able to improve and enhance my practice as a result."

The article notes that Lance Zinman, global co-chair of the firm’s Financial Services practice, said Carl's background makes him a "great fit" as Katten's clients "expect a high-level of expertise" in business matters. According to the article, Carl joins Katten as the firm aims to expand in the coming years after approving a three-year strategic plan in early 2019 to hire more partners to its new and growing offices nationally, as well as at a time when “black lawyers are still underrepresented at law firms."
