Sports and Sports Facilities Partner Daniel Render was recently featured in The University of Chicago Law School Alumni News series "In the Sports Arena." In the interview, Daniel discusses how his experience in law school at the University of Chicago helped him to shape a career where he can focus on sports.

After working in a sales and marketing capacity at a professional sports team, Daniel attended law school at the University of Chicago. From law school, Daniel got his start in corporate law and eventually joined Katten where he has focused on sports-related work. He shared that joining Katten and its Sports and Sports Facilities team was a "no brainer."

Daniel reflected on one of his favorite transactions to work on at Katten. He led a team of Katten attorneys representing a buyer group purchasing control of the Charlotte Hornets National Basketball Association franchise.

"We were negotiating against Michael Jordan … and his lawyers," Render recalled. "I was given the opportunity to sit in the first chair and lead all the negotiations, manage the process, and interact directly with our client and investors. We were also working on a compressed time frame. It was tremendously difficult and challenging, but once we got it done, tremendously rewarding."

Daniel also shared one of the most fulfilling parts of his role at Katten. "I often find myself working with people I genuinely like," he said.
