Real Estate Partner Eddy Park was recognized in the New York Real Estate Journal's (NYREJ) annual Innovators in Commercial Real Estate Spotlight, featured in their October issue. This special section recognizes individuals who are driving innovation, inspiring change or making a lasting impact within their organization or industry.
NYREJ asked Eddy how he sees innovation in real estate creating a broader impact on communities and the people who live and work in them. "People often associate innovation with technology, but I think the greatest opportunity in commercial real estate lies in rethinking how spaces can be designed to promote healthier, more fulfilling ways of living and working," Eddy said. "This includes walkability, density, bike paths, and a diverse mix of uses. It's the idea behind the '15-minute city,' which offers a compelling framework where developers, owners and tenants can all benefit."
NYREJ also asked Eddy where he sees the biggest opportunities for innovation in the commercial real estate sector. "While many might point to technology or process, I like to think that the real opportunities lie in taking a more creative approach to planning," he replied. "In other words, some of this innovation needs to come from municipal and government bodies, which can take a policy-oriented approach to encouraging this sort of development." Eddy added that these bodies "also play a key role in implementing legal, zoning and regulatory changes necessary to make such development possible."
