Gary DeWaal, special counsel in the Financial Markets and Funds practice, will participate in the "DeFi, AML and the Regulatory Perimeter" session at 11:45 a.m. (ET) on Tuesday, October 20. Panelists will discuss how Decentralized Finance (DeFi) raises many issues regarding the application of relevant laws and rules by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, as well as states, in the United States and other requirements abroad, to blockchain-hosted applications that are programmed through open source code and may not be run by an identifiable company or persons. They will also discuss how application of the Bank Secrecy Act and other AML requirements in the United States and abroad are also a concern, and explore how DeFI and decentralized exchanges may fit within the regulatory landscape.
