Two Katten attorneys will participate in the ABA's Forum on Communications Law 2023 Annual Conference, taking place on February 2–4. At 12:45 p.m. on Friday, February 3, Privacy, Data and Cybersecurity partner and co-privacy officer Trisha Sircar will speak on the "Hot Issues in Data Privacy" workshop. The session will cover current issues in the realm of data privacy, which has been impacted by multiple recent Supreme Court decisions, the midterms and global actions, with topics including:
- Privacy and data protection professionals wrestling with the technical impact of Dobbs, and the regulatory impact of EPA v. West Virginia
- States moving to regulate biometrics and more legislatures are working on comprehensive data protection laws that have a higher likelihood of becoming law following the midterms
- Cross-border issues continuing in regards to the latest Safe Harbor framework and as we deal with the rollout of China's standard contractual clauses
At 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, Entertainment and Media partner Scott Cutrow will speak on “The Streaming Deal: End to End" session, discussing the lawyering that happens before anybody can click "play" on their favorite streaming platform, and how streaming shows and movies make it from idea to the digital screen. Speakers will discuss the role of lawyers from pitch, to shopping, to different kinds of greenlighting, and much more, as well as how that provision will stand up in litigation.
