About Julia M. Winters

Julia Winters has honed her litigation skills handling complex restructuring and commercial disputes in bankruptcy, state and federal courts. She has proven herself a trusted advisor, blending her legal and business acumen with a client-centric approach. Julia's versatility as a litigator is evident in her experience with long, drawn-out legal fights and high-stakes litigation, as well as her ability to provide targeted and efficient counsel when required. She has represented a diverse range of clients, including indenture trustees, creditor groups, litigation trusts, debtors and independent directors.

Strategic litigator with an investor's mindset

As a strategic thinker, clients rely on Julia to develop solutions that make sense not only from a legal but also from a business perspective. Early in her career, Julia worked as an analyst for Bloomberg Intelligence and Reorg Research, which taught her to think like an investor. She brings an analyst's eye to her matters, enabling her to provide counsel that aligns with her clients' business objectives.

In addition to her litigation skills, Julia has refined her ability to translate complex restructuring proceedings into comprehensible information for non-lawyers. This skill, coupled with her holistic view of a client's legal and business goals, makes her a steady guide through the rough waters of restructuring litigation. Julia's collaborative work style is underpinned by her belief that a diverse team is stronger than any individual.

Beyond her practice, Julia mentors junior attorneys within Katten and through Girls Just Wanna Have Funds' NextGen program. She has also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Elizabeth S. Stong of the US Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York, was an executive articles editor for the Brooklyn Journal of International Law and taught legal writing at Brooklyn Law School as an adjunct professor for several years.
