Capital Markets partner and practice co-head Lawrence Levin, along with associate Elizabeth McNichol, have updated Chapter 6 on "Voluntary Disclosure Methods" in the seventh edition of Standards of Practice for Investor Relations – Disclosure published by The Association for Investor Relations (NIRI). The latest edition is a comprehensive update designed to educate investor relations professionals, and reflects current best practices and standards for corporate disclosure of information to stakeholders.
Specifically, Chapter 6 outlines rules, guidance and best practices that apply to public disclosures made through websites, press releases, social media and other channels. The NIRI guidelines emphasize that every company should monitor what is being said about the company, its management, and its products or services, and should also adopt policies addressing the use of social media by officers, directors and employees.
As stated in the NIRI's press release, NIRI began setting standards for the investor relations profession in 1996 and has periodically updated the guidance over the years. Now, thousands of investor relations professionals and other corporate executives use these standards for guidance on disclosure and interaction with analysts and investors. The standards are also a popular reference for securities lawyers.
