As reported by Law360 Pulse, Katten welcomed more than a dozen middle school students from the educational nonprofit Breakthrough New York to its New York office in late July for a Career Day that introduced young people to the legal profession.
Breakthrough New York is dedicated to expanding educational opportunities for motivated students from historically underserved communities through long-term academic support, mentorship and college access programming. During the July 23 event, Katten attorneys, summer associates and other volunteers spent time with the students discussing careers in law, sharing personal experiences and answering questions about legal practice and professional development.
A highlight of the program was a mock trial exercise, where students could experience firsthand how lawyers analyze facts, build arguments and present positions. According to Partner and Financial Markets and Regulation Co-Chair Carl Kennedy, the mock trial sparked particularly strong engagement and excitement among attendees. Carl serves on Breakthrough New York’s Board of Directors.
