A Katten team led by Government and Public Finance Partner Chad Doobay and Counsel Kelly Hutchinson served as counsel to underwriters and dealer managers led by RBC Capital Markets, LLC in the $1.92 billion revenue bond transaction issued by the Illinois Finance Authority to support facilities upgrades at the University of Chicago.
The deal was divided into three series of tax-exempt and taxable bonds. The structure included several other elements to optimize the university's capital structure, including opportunistic modification of interest rate hedges and tender offers for both municipal and corporate debt.
The Bond Buyer recognized the deal as the 2024 Deal of the Year in the Midwest Region category.
