Feng Xue, head of Katten’s China practice located in both Chicago and Shanghai, discussed the increased recruitment and hiring of Mandarin-speaking attorneys by Chicago’s largest law firms with Crain’s Chicago Business. While firms traditionally have had Mandarin-speaking lawyers based in China, skyrocketing Chinese investment in Illinois—from US $222 million to a high of US $3.5 billion in 2014—has led to more stateside opportunity for bilingual attorneys. Feng expects 2015 to be another busy year, and noted that Katten plans to hire another Mandarin-speaking attorney in real estate. (“Why Chicago Law Firms Are Learning Mandarin,” January 3, 2015)
