About Daniel J. Elrod
Dan Elrod understands that moving a transaction forward requires an understanding of the client's business strategy and objectives. He advises clients on all aspects of commercial real estate transactions involving property located across the country. Clients depend on Dan to provide practical solutions to complex and nuanced issues in order to help them achieve their goals.
Focused on both sides of real estate transactions
Dan focuses his practice on acquisitions and dispositions of commercial real estate and mortgage loan originations and other structured financings. He assists investors on joint venture agreements and purchase and sale agreements. He also works with lenders on loan agreements and security agreements relating to commercial property across the country and across all asset classes including office, industrial, hotel, student housing and multifamily. His clients include real estate private equity funds, real estate investment trusts and institutional lenders as well as developers.
Dan was part of a Katten team of attorneys representing a real estate private equity fund that sold a portfolio of 22 commercial properties for over $300 million across 13 different states.
Dan was part of a Katten team of attorneys representing a National Basketball Association team in connection with the team’s acquisition, financing and development of its new arena, practice facility and public plaza.
Dan has significant experience in representing lenders in loans secured by real estate, including a $38 million loan secured by a portfolio of nine industrial properties located in Chicago, a $55 million loan secured by a portfolio of five hotel properties located in Washington State and Oregon and a $45 million loan secured by a retail shopping center located in Longmont, Colorado.
Dan is a member of the Urban Land Institute, and is a participant in the Constitutional Rights Foundation's Lawyers in the Classroom program.
During law school, Dan served as an extern to the Honorable Marvin E. Aspen of the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and Illinois Supreme Court Justice Ann M. Burke.
