About Zachary S. Beal

Zachary Beal represents corporate clients, financial institutions and individuals in high-stakes commercial litigation and complex antitrust matters. He handles sophisticated disputes across state and federal courts, with experience spanning contractual disputes, financial services litigation, real estate matters and international commercial disputes. He also counsels clients on critical antitrust issues, with a particular focus on pre-merger filings under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act, ensuring clients achieve the regulatory clearance needed to close on transactions.

Strategic approach to complex issues

Zack's litigation practice encompasses a wide range of high-stakes matters for clients across industries, including financial services, manufacturing, real estate, technology, health care and energy. His experience spans commercial contract disputes, real estate litigation, employment matters, financial services disputes, antitrust litigation and complex fraud litigation.

Zack has served as lead counsel for one of the world’s largest industrial gas companies in litigation against the Russian Federation's state-owned gas company. The case stemmed from the unlawful seizure of assets in Russia, raising novel geopolitical issues involving global sanctions and the property rights of foreign businesses.

Zack is well-versed in handling complex financial fraud litigation, such as matters stemming from the Madoff bankruptcy. These cases require navigating international corporate restructuring, cross-border discovery and multiparty coordination. When matters involve international dimensions, he coordinates effectively with foreign counsel to navigate cross-border discovery and jurisdictional issues. Additionally, he has guided clients through multiparty mediations, securing favorable outcomes in high-stakes disputes.

Clients value Zack’s ability to understand the big picture while maintaining meticulous attention to detail. Whether handling complex contractual disputes, financial services matters, real estate litigation, antitrust inquiries or employment cases, he focuses on providing thoughtful and practical resolutions tailored to each client’s business objectives and goals.

Guiding clients through regulatory clearance

An insightful counselor on antitrust matters, Zack helps clients navigate pre-merger filings under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act, including but not limited to the health care, transportation, manufacturing, technology, automotive, finance and real estate industries. He works closely with clients to ensure they achieve the regulatory clearance needed to close transactions efficiently.

Commitment to pro bono service

Zack maintains an active pro bono practice that reflects his commitment to giving back to the community. He has successfully represented a century-old New York cultural institution in defending against predatory Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) litigation that threatened to close the family business, securing a complete dismissal with prejudice. He has secured asylum for a Cuban refugee fleeing government persecution and annually coaches the Townsend Harris High School moot court and mock trial teams, mentoring students in complex legal analysis and advocacy skills.

Prior to joining Katten, Zack worked at a national law firm, representing insurers in complex insurance litigation. While attending law school, Zack served as executive editor of the ADR Honor Competition Team and associate editor of the Art & Entertainment Law Journal. He also served as Student Bar Association president of Cardozo Law School.
