World Trademark Review recognized Katten and four Intellectual Property attorneys in the 2022 edition of WTR 1000 – The World's Leading Trademark Professionals, which is a research directory that solely focuses on trademark practices and practitioners. WTR 1000 identifies the leading trademark practitioners and firms in key jurisdictions across the globe.

WTR 1000 featured Katten on the national level and regionally in Washington D.C., and further recognized the Illinois and New York offices with distinctions. Katten Chairman Roger Furey, Karen Artz Ash and Floyd Mandell, partners and co-chairs of the firm's Trademark/Copyright/Advertising/Privacy practice group, and partner Kristin Achterhof also received individual distinctions and accolades in the areas of "prosecution and strategy" and "enforcement and litigation." Members of this group have consistently been recognized by World Trademark Review for more than a decade.

Noting that Katten leads the shortlist of law firms for many major names in the fashion world, WTR 1000 highlighted Karen's stature as a "doyenne of the industry" and the widespread respect she has garnered through her counsel and strategic insight. Offering a snapshot of Karen’s practice, the profile recognized that her role extends beyond being just an intellectual property attorney, as she leverages her background in economics and finance "to act as a true business partner to patrons."

Shining the spotlight on Katten's leading reputation for handling high-exposure litigation in the trademark, copyright and advertising space, WTR 1000 credited Floyd's charismatic leadership in steering successful strategies through all litigation stages as well as correcting course in cases that are taken over from other firms. Floyd received the highest national distinction for his work in enforcement and litigation.

"Floyd represents with authority and passion," according to WTR 1000, citing praise from sources. "He's a top guy but not someone who is too high up on his horse and therefore difficult to deal with – he's a practically minded lawyer who knows how to find common ground and reach sensible resolutions."

WTR 1000 also touted Kristin's advocacy skills and well-rounded knowledge, highlighting her leadership roles as national co-chair of Katten's Intellectual Property Litigation practice and national chair of the firm's Advertising, Marketing and Promotions practice. Lauding Kristin's robust representation of clients, one source observed that she is "a strong advocate for her clients but without being disagreeable."

Katten's Intellectual Property attorneys evaluate thousands of trademark searches every year and police clients' marks against threats worldwide. They provide counsel on evolving trademark registration and pre-litigation issues. From protection of product launches to defense against infringement claims, Katten's team resolves trademark disputes and lawsuits related to deceptive trade practices, fair use or infringement, First Amendment rights, Lanham Act, service marks, and unfair competition among other issues.
